Our class is named after Dame Kelly Holmes.

Double Olympic Champion, Dame Kelly Holmes MBE (mil) is one of the UK’s most popular athletes, respected throughout the world as a role model and an inspiration. Setting and still holding the British records in the 800m and 1000m, Kelly is an Olympic, Commonwealth and European champion that has achieved seven Gold, eight Silver and four Bronze medals throughout her career. She is an inspiration to Holmes class and has achieved her dream through determination and resilience.

PE Days

Our PE days are every Wednesday and Friday.  Remember to come to school in your PE kit on that day.

Homework

Homework expectations for this term are:

  • To read 5 times a week and record it in the yellow planner.
  • To log onto Spelling Shed every week and complete the spelling tasks set.
  • To log onto Times Table Rockstars to practice the quick recall of multiplication facts.  
  • Activities will be set weekly on Purple Mash to support Learning in class. Your child has their log in details stuck inside their diary

Summer Term 17.04.23

English 

In English we are continuing to read Letters from the Lighthouse by Emma Carroll. We will be writing a letter of persuasion relating to this novel. This is a wonderful novel set in the 1940's, following on from our prior learning about WW2 in History last term. This novel is a book about a brother and sister, Cliff and Olive, who are evacuated from London to Budmouth Point during the Second World War. Their older sister Sukie is missing and no one knows if she's still alive. Why was Sukie dressed up like her mother when she disappeared? 
 
 

Maths
In Maths we will be continuing to learn all about multiplication and division facts. In order for your child to access this unit well and achieve greater depth children need to be fluent and confident with their multiplication recall facts . Please practise multiplication facts at home daily to ensure your child is confident. In Year 5, your child will learn to identify multiples and factors, including finding all factor pairs of a number, common factors of 2 numbers, and prime numbers. They will solve increasingly complex problems involving multiplications and divisions.

Science 
In Science we will be learning about Animals and their Habitats. We will be describing the differences in the life cycles of a mammal, an amphibian, an insect and a bird. We will also be describe the life process of reproduction in some plants and animals. Please watch these clips on BBC Bitesize if you would like to learn more. 
 
 
 
History - Ancient Egypt
In History we will be learning all about Ancient Egypt. We will be looking at what Egyptians believed, the Egyptian gods, the importance animals had in Ancient Egypt and why the Egyptians built temples, tombs and pyramids and what they were like. We will also be looking at religious festivals in Ancient Egypt and how the Egyptians Celebrate them as well as how religion affect life in Ancient Egypt.

Music Looping and Remixing
Children will be able to play a simple looped rhythm from notation. Learn how to improvise and compose music for a range of purposes using the inter-related dimensions of music and use and understand staff and other musical notations.
 
PSHE  - Economic Wellbeing
Children will learn that borrowing money is a way to pay for something but this has to be repaid. Understand what income and expenditure are and how these can be recorded. Understand that there are risks associated with money and what some of these are. Look at how to create a weekly budget, including prioritising needs over wants and know that stereotypes can exist in the workplace and how these can affect people
Religious Education - Kingdom of God
