Reception Windsor Class
Our class in named after Queen Elizabeth Windsor. Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain was the longest-reigning monarch in British history. She celebrated 70 years on the throne in June 2022 with her Platinum Jubilee.
All the staff and children celebrated this event by performing songs and dances for each decade throughout her reign.
We are proud and very privileged to be named after a very special and important person whom was a patron of more than 600 charities in the United Kingdom.

Reading Books
At Haslam Park, we value reading as we believe that reading supports your child to develop their language skills, improves comprehension and increases their vocabulary. Research has revealed that children who read on a regular basis, achieve greater in education. Therefore, we try to listen to children read as often as we can in school.
We ask that parents read with their child for ten minutes each day. Parents are required to write a comment in the reading record provided so that we can work together to support your child to make progress with their reading.
We sell reading bags for £2:50 at the school office to keep your reading books and homework books in.
Expected PE Kit
Our PE days will be on Thursdays this half term
Phonics Homework
Every Friday, your child will receive some phonics homework in their homework book. Please send the homework back each Wednesday so that we can add new homework.
We will also be sharing the link to the interactive resource that we use as part of our daily phonics lessons so that you can support your child with their current learning.

Week beginning 13th January
This week, we have been learning all about penguins. We learned that some penguins habitat parts of the Antarctic where it is freezing cold and son=me habitat warmer climates like the Galapagos Islands.
We represented penguins using a range of mediums and wrote some facts about penguins
Week beginning 6th January (Artwork)
This week, we have been using paints and cotton buds to create a snowy and wintery scene. We discussed what colours we would see during a snowy day and looked outside to attempt to recreate a similar scene in our paintings. We produced some amazing work.
Week beginning 19th December (snowy Day)
Today we went on a winter walk to observe the many changes in the environment. We were very excited to explore the snow that had fallen in the playground.
The children discussed how the environment had changed and talked about how it had turned very cold and that they need to ensure that they wrap up with hats, scarves and coats. Some children noticed that water that had been left outside had iced up and that the floor was quite slippery.
Building a hedgehog house
We have been learning all about how woodland animals prepare for the winter. We learned that hedgehogs bulk up during the autumn by eating as much as they can to keep them going through the winter. The children decided to make their very own hedgehog houses and placed food and water in the hedgehog house to keep them warm and well fed throughout the cold weather.

Week Beginning 14th November (Ambassador Dog visit)
This week, we had an ambassador dog visit our school to teach us all about how to keep ourselves safe around dogs in the environment and how to keep dogs safe also.
We were amazed to learn how much training ambassador and guide dogs go through to be able to take on the special roles of taking care of people who are visually impaired or blind.
Freddy the dog was very well behaved and we got a chance to walk and pet him also.
Week beginning 7th November
This week we have continued to think of ways of how to keep ourselves and others safe in different situations. The firefighters visited us and we had so much fun using the hose pipes, looking inside the fire engine and watching Miss Ratcliffe wear the firefighters clothes.
We learned that firefighters do more than put out dangerous fires! They also rescue people from cars, high places and buildings.
Week beginning 31st October
This week, we have started to think about how to stay safe during bonfire night. We watched Miss Hampson demonstrate how to use sparklers safely and were able to have so much fun using them ourselves. We made our own safety posters to help others to keep safe also.
We have also been making some potions using pumpkins as a container and coloured water. We were facinated see how the colour of the water changed when the colours were mixed together!
Week beginning 17th October
We have really enjoyed reading the story Owl Babies this half. We have retold the story using a range of props and written lots of sentences relating to the story. Take a look at some of the children's amazing work!
Woodland Animals
The children have enjoyed learning all about the different woodland animals. They have created an owl using the playdough and explored with all of the woodland animals in our woodland area. We have been learning all about what a habitat provides the animals this week.
Week beginning 10th October
Maths
In maths, we have been using the acorns, numerals and trees to match numeral to quantity. We are getting much better at counting now and are using many different objects to help us with our counting skills.
Owl Babies
This week, the children have enjoyed making puppets related to the story 'Owl Babies' They took them outside and used familiar language from the story. They performed their oral retell to the rest of the class.
Week beginning 3rd October
This week, we have been using all of the autumn objects to create patterns, faces and artwork. We used the acorns and leaves to make woodland animals and faces.
We have had so much fun using the conkers on our conker run. The children worked out how make the conkers roll down the ramps faster by lifting the ramp up higher.
Week beginning 26th September
The children have started to use their phonics knowledge and awareness to begin writing their first sentences. We have been reading the story 'Owl Babies' and we have been thinking about how to describe how Bill felt when his mum had gone! We thought of new words for sad. We played the game 'Word Collector' to learn new words for sad.
Knowledge and Understanding of the world.
The children collected leaves from the playground and tried to identify them using the leaf chart. We learnt the names of the different types of trees and learned why leaves are different shapes and sizes. We went outside to search for the trees that the leaves had fallen from. We didn't let the weather dampen our spirits as we had our wellies and waterproofs on to protect us.
Week beginning 19th September
Knowledge and Understanding of the world
As part of our autumn theme, we went on an autumn walk to look for changes in the environment. The children were excited to watch the leaves fall from the trees and they tried to catch them as they fell.
We used the leaves to make some leaf print paintings. The next few weeks, we will learning more about the autumn season and we will be learning all about the local woodland animals and how they prepare for the winter months during autumn.

Great Start to Reception
The children have made an amazing start to their Reception class. They are settling in well and are building some lovely friendships.
